“My father was the epic hero, and I am his scribe.”

Many of us come to know a friend over time through experience and personal stories. That is how my father revealed himself to me as his tales unfurled. Decades passed, and the stories were jumbled up in my mind. There were episodes that were not completely connected; facts that needed to be checked. I had a rough chronology, dozens of lively stories, but had to find a way to piece them together. Prompted by a friend’s intervention, I chose to stay true to my father’s accounts, embrace the puzzle, and write his story. Through these stories, this website, and future books, I want to honor my father, and others like him, and share his story with those who come after us.
